Macroscopic Description - Kellye Pando
95% of exterior is covered with a possible fusion crust that is very dark brown/black and has some areas of orange rust. There are also a few spots of white evaporites. Fresh interior is dark red/brown matrix with some areas that are very dark brown/black along with large (up to 2.5 mm) orange rusted inclusions and some white material that might be evaporites.
Thin Section Description (,,2) - Cari Corrigan, Tim McCoy
The section consists of 70-80% round, elongate, and irregular metal particles typically 100-200 microns in diameter, but reaching 1 mm. These particles are separated by terrestrial hydrated iron oxides. Chondrules occupy 20-30% of the rock and occur in similar shapes and sizes as metal. They are fine grained, and dominated by barred, microporphyritic and cryptocrystalline texture. Silicates are iron-poor Fs1-4. The meteorite is a metal rich chondrite, likely a CBb chondrite. |
