Meet the Staff!

Carol Schwarz The Curatorial Facility has been operated over the past years by very proficient and qualified personnel. The tasks at hand requires technical and scientific skills along with patience and much dedication.

The Curatorial employee highlighted is Carol Schwarz. Carol was born on a farm in Lamberton, Minnesota. She is the daughter of Dorothy and the late Leonard Coulter and has one sister, Jani.

She received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Geology from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota, and her Masters of Science in Physical Science from the University of Houston Clear Lake. Carol has continued her education by taking numerous Managerial and computer courses.

Carol began her career at NASA-JSC in August of 1973 with Northrop Services, Inc. (presently Lockheed Martin). She has worked in many areas of Sample Curation. She began as a sample processor in the Lunar Returned Sample Laboratory and continued to process Antarctic meteorites in the Meteorite Processing Lab. She processed lunar core samples from 1986 through 1994. (At Space Center Houston in the Lunar Sample Laboratory Display Area, there is a life-sized replica of Carol dissecting a core.) She has published papers and presented posters at many conferences. Along with the many task that she performs, Carol has been the Lockheed Martin Laboratory Manager of the Planetary Materials Curation Team since 1989, while still assisting with tasks in the Lunar and Meteorite Laboratories.

Carol believes in staying physically fit. In her spare time, she likes to participate in aerobics and Yoga. She also enjoys hiking while on vacation out west in Utah and New Mexico and reading murder mystery novels.

Carol has been married to Monte Schwarz since 1974. They met while working together in the Curatorial laboratories. She has two sons (Monte Jr. and David), a daughter-in-law (Cyndy), two granddaughters and three cats.
